Samantha started her side business a little over 3 years ago so that she could improve her skills and better herself in as many areas as she could. She now has an exciting profitable business that helps clients in the restaurants and nightlife industry. Meet Samantha Chin
Tell me a little bit about how you got started?
While I was still in school working towards a Communications degree, I realized that the only way I’d truly succeed was to do just that – communicate. I tried to make as many contacts and connections I could, from my internships or even at the restaurants I’d work at on weekends. It was there that I realized I’d developed a true passion for hospitality – specifically, restaurants and nightlife. Upon graduation, I’d attained my degree but also inherited a ton of student debt. I was lucky enough to secure a full-time job post-graduation but realized that I wanted and needed to do more.
Today, in addition to my position with a restaurant group, I work with my own clients on their marketing, PR and social media needs as well as produce and host events.
Why did you start your Side Business
Money reasons aside, it’s all about gaining experience in as many areas as I can to better myself, my brand, and my skill. It’s about being the best at what I do.
What Areas of Marketing have worked best for you?
Referrals and social media have worked wonders for business. Clients soon become friends and they refer me to others.
When do you find the time to work on your side businesses with a full-time job and other obligations?
I’m very fortunate that my full-time job in hospitality PR/Marketing is one that I adore, with people who inspire me on a daily basis. Whatever free time I have outside of that job, I dedicate towards my other clients. I don’t have a day off during the week, so nights and weekends are often dedicated to the side hustle.
Did you set any business Goals when you started?
The goal is to always just be the best at what I do. I want to continue to grow and establish a name and brand that people look to and can count on for excellent results.
What has been the Best thing that has Happened in your Side Business
Anytime that my work is recognized as a job well done, that’s the best. I’ve also been fortunate enough to meet several people that I admire, both personally and professionally.
What advice would you give someone just starting out?
The most important piece of advice I can offer is to “know your worth”. No matter what the side hustle is, know what you’re worth and don’t underestimate yourself. Time management is also an essential skill that should be mastered.
